Green Mandarin

Green Mandarin Citrus nobilis

From the unripe fruit of the mandarin tree, Green Mandarin essential oil is known for supporting healthy digestive and immune systems when used internally.

Why Brazil?

The south of Brazil has the perfect climate for citrus growing. It is ideal for producing high quality citrus fruit, and consequently, some of the finest quality citrus essential oils.

How Does it Work?

Mandarin trees are farmed in Brazil to produce fruit for the fresh market, but Green Mandarin essential oil comes from immature fruit that is thinned during the growing process. Thinning fruit trees is necessary because it creates the space for the remaining fruit to ripen and mature, but the thinned product is far too green and sour to eat.

Instead of letting this unripe mandarin rot on the ground, the fruit is collected and used for our Green Mandarin essential oil. The essential oil is cold-pressed from the peel of the fruit and carries a unique aroma profile from that of the ripened (or red) fruit.

No Longer Waste Product—Compensation All the Way Through the Process

Previously, the thinned mandarin was a waste by-product, but now small-scale farmers are being compensated for that product. This additional income during the off-season can be used to cover many of the farm’s production costs, which means that the income from the ripe red mandarin—sold on to the fruit market—can be profit.

By purchasing the green mandarin, we, with our partners, provide an additional, reliable stream of income for farmers in Brazil. Their business and livelihood are more profitable and sustainable, and we are the beneficiaries of everything this beautiful essential oil has to offer.
